Genshin Impact Fontaine Fanart
When the Fontaine update came out I was so excited to explore the new map. Genshin Impact is a game with a gorgeous environment design. I love Fontaine's aesthetic and wanted to try recreating it. The Fountain of Fontaine is located in the middle of the large water city. I felt like it represented Fontaine's city as a whole very well, so I chose to focus on this prop for this project. This is the first time I have worked with VFX in Unreal Engine. It took a bit but with the help from my senior and professor, this is the finished product.
Wireframe
VFX Niagara System
I used the Niagara System in Unreal Engine 5 to make VFX for the water Orb in the middle of the Fountain. This is to keep everything organized and easy to adjust later on. The water effect in the middle is a hand-drawn animation I made and moved by the 2d sprite feature in the engine.
Texture Tiling and Plants
Many objects with the same pattern were textured by tilting. I overlapped their Uvs to save time and for optimization. It really helps that the scene is quite symmetrical. Therefore, I only have a workload of half of the scene using this method.
I studied how Genshin Impact made their stylized plants and made 3 variations of plants imitating their method. Using multiple layers of alpha creates a stylized-looking bush that looks full and doesn't consume too much time.

For the final project of my junior year, I decided to create a Chinese restaurant scene in Unreal Engine 4. My aim was to capture the feeling of nostalgia and a bit of loneliness that I have toward this kind of environment. I started by sketching out the concept to make sure I knew the overall picture that I wanted to achieve before going in and bringing it into 3D.
